The John Hirsch Theatre at the MTC Mainstage
174 Market Avenue

Most of MTC’s 20,000 subscribers attend the Mainstage’s six large-scale productions. This is where audiences can expect to see a classic like To Kill a Mockingbird or a Broadway music al like Evita – shows with big vistas, big characters, big themes. Plays like Manitoba playwright Maureen Hunter’s Transit of Venus received its world premiere here and went on to be produced by England’s Royal Shakespeare Theatre Company.
The theatre seats 789, and each season MTC offers at least 174 performances. The Mainstage is also where the work of the company’s master artisans is in the spotlight, as they build sets, props and costumes to equal those on any stage in the world.
